Fay School – the oldest junior boarding school in the country – began a campus transformation in 2006 to create a “village” atmosphere. Partnering with architect S/L/A/M Collaborative, Erland’s first phase included extensive site work, a new maintenance building, a wastewater treatment facility, and two woodframed student/faculty residences. Each residence hall includes eight double rooms for students and two 2-story faculty apartments. A large common room on the first floor of each dorm has study carrels with Internet service, as well as areas for relaxation and recreation. The project earned LEED Gold certification, in part recognizing the reclamation of wastewater for non-potable use. This collaboration represents the fourth time Erland has worked on the Fay School campus in Southborough.
