Edward M. Kennedy Community Health Center

Owner: Edward M. Kennedy Community Health Centers

Framingham, MA

Erland renovated 32,500sf of an existing office building at 354 Waverly Street in Framingham for Edward M. Kennedy Community Health Centers. The new clinical space doubled the center’s previous capacity. The project included an 8,000sf addition that features a new entrance lobby and elevator. The entire first floor was renovated, along with a portion of the third floor. The second and third floors were occupied by other businesses that remained in operation throughout the renovations. The major challenge on this project was safely maintaining 24/7 handicap access during construction while demolishing the only elevator serving the second and third floors. We built a temporary enclosed wheelchair lift to continue providing access, arranging for all the special permits required. The new location features examination rooms, patient rooms, a laboratory, private offices for patient consultations and staff conference rooms. New sprinklers were also installed throughout the building, which was completed after-hours in occupied areas to ensure minimal disruption to current tenants.
