Lighthouse School selected Erland and TBA Architects to construct a new 23,000 sf school building, designated the Breakwater House, on their growing campus in Chelmsford. Lighthouse, a 56-year-old not-for-profit institution, provides educational, vocational, and therapeutic services and treatment to special needs students ages 3 to 22. Breakwater House, built next to the school’s existing 50,000 sf facility on Wellman Ave, accommodates curriculum and educational services previously held in a leased space across town. The scope of work included an indoor play space, library, art room, nurse and teaching offices, and much-needed additional classrooms to continue promoting total life development. Erland also constructed a parking lot in addition to the covered spaces the new building provides. This was Erland’s first project with Lighthouse School.
